Video Sequence:
Flame Hardening a Knife Blade

The Process: Heating a Round Knife Blade

This video demonstrates the process of flame hardening a knife blade that is used for food processing. The flame head hardens the edge of the knife, and then the knife is immediately quenched – after which, the knife’s blade is a great deal harder, allowing the blade to stay sharper longer.
